Our Story
At Stirling Fruit Farms we have been growing apples for over three generations. As a young man, our founder Alexander Robert Stirling spent his summers helping out on the family farm. In 1917, at the age of 17, he bought the farm from his aunts and devoted his life to a love of the land.
Throughout the years, A.R. nurtured the farms’ fruit trees and expanded the apple orchard. In the 1940’s he expanded the business closer to home, setting up the first Stirling roadside farm market in front of his house.
During the 50’s and 60’s, more farm markets were established and wholesale and export markets were also expanded to include many other countries.
Over time the farm grew as more apple trees were planted and his sons began working in the business.
A large warehouse and apple grader were installed to facilitate shipments to other parts of Atlantic Canada and Great Britain.
A.R. Stirling introduced many industry firsts to Atlantic Canada. He never lost his love of the land and his devotion to both innovation and tradition.
Continuing the family tradition at Stirling Fruit Farms, today Greenwich is home to four generations of the Stirling family.

Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival
The Apple Blossom Festival began in 1933 after a valley wide decision was made to celebrate and enjoy the natural springtime beauty of the Annapolis Valley. It is a celebration of our traditions and agricultural heritage.
The Apple Blossom Festival annually opens Nova Scotia’s tourist season and continues to enjoy national and international recognition. The last Wednesday in May is the Official First Day of Festival each year.
